The first week of May had the boys enter the MSA U-14 Gold tournament with a few new faces and no friendlies, new coach, and a new system, it was an interesting ride.
Game 1
Vs West Coast Panthers
The boys were getting a lot of touches on the ball and great possession but were not making any use of it in the final third, to the point it looked like the cross bar had a better chance of scoring. The Panthers managed to get themselves a corner and on the en suing play, they scored. The boys really felt this loss as it was the first time they had lost to the Panthers in 4 years. Lost 1-0
Game 2
Vs Abbottsford United
After losing the day before, the boys knew they had to put on a performance to accumulate enough points to make the final. With the pressure on, the boys went about their business, again controlling the tempo and spreading the play. It started to feel like the previous game with no joy in the penalty box, until the first goal went in after a great combination between the right back and winger to put CRS. This put the boys at ease and the flood gates opened with one of the strikers walking away with a hat trick. The Center mids also put in a good display of offense and defense. All in all a great performance which oozed confidence!
Won 6-0
Game 3
Vs West Coast Panthers
After finishing game two, all eyes were on whom the boys would face in the final and they were all rooting for WC Panthers... revenge is a great motivation and they did not want to wait for future tournaments to avenge the 1-0 loss earlier. This time the boys were prepared, they had been to plenty of finals before and knew to be patient and it paid off and once again, the flood gates were opened with a commanding performance by the inevitable Champions.
Won 5-0
We'd also like to take the time to thank MSA for putting on a great tournament, it is most appreciated!
